Certified Peer Health Educators & Volunteers

HealthyCards is the Health Education's student group. HealthyCards is made up of Certified Peer Health Educators and Volunteers serving the Lamar University and LIT community.

HealthyCards was founded on the belief that students can be highly effective in educating their peers' attitudes and beliefs about health and wellness-related topics.

How to Become a Certified Peer Health Educator

Applications: open in the fall for Peer Health Educators. Announcements are made via Instagram and the postings is located on the university job board. Interviews occur before leaving for the holiday break, and the position begins in February of the spring semester. The position can be held until graduation. Students work during the summer semester.

Scheduling: Your weekly schedule is flexible and is on an "as needed" basis, and can change semester-to-semester. You and the Assistant Director of Health Education will work together to set your schedule. You cannot work over 19.5 hours per week. 

Compensation: CPHE's are paid positions through the university. The position is Work Study eligible but not limited to work-study required. 

Certification

MANY reasons! As a Certified Peer Health Educator, you get to participate in scheduled training sessions with the Assistant Director of Health Education. Training sessions cover topics related to health, wellness, public health, and health education. Training sessions are broken up into bite-sized pieces over the course of the semester.

This training culminates in a test that allows you to become a Certified Peer Health Educator through NASPA.org.

• Cardinal View
• New Student Orientation
• Admitted Students Day
• Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
• Biannual Health Fair
• Turkey Trot Race, Jingle Bell Run, and others with local run groups like Sea Rim Striders!
